Hello everyone, I would like to present to you our new feature: the genre map! Also I will present you a short guide to track profiling.
The InteractiveGenre Map
Every track in the database, for each genre it has elements of or it draws inspiration from, creating bonds between them. Based on these bonds, the genres are drawn in 2D space, and then each album is placed onto the map as a star, based on genres it consists of. Some of them, with enough influence from other genres, will appear further from their nebula, and mono-genre releases will be drawn nearer the heart.

Track Profiles: How can you help?
As the accuracy of genre map depends on the tracks being profiled, we need your help with filling these profiles.

For each track in the database, you can set the genre affinity sliders and its mood sliders according to your perception of that track. Once you fill at least one genre and all 6 mood profiles, the profile confidence increases and the averaged results become visible. You may also choose to see the averages before you vote, if you wish. Additionally, you can also add, upvote or downvote tags. If something is not covered by the genre mood sliders, you can help further describe the track with tags just write a tag, such as flute , dreamy or dramatic and press enter. Alternatively you may also browse tags by category.
What if I don t know anything about genres?
You don t have to be an expert for your votes to matter. Just set a slider according to your feeling, and that s it. With enough votes, even from non-specialized users, the track profile will average to be better than it would be from just one specialized user. But, if you still want to learn, we have something extra incoming:
The Genre Guide
To make profiling easier for newcomers, we re also building something to help you can browse genres on Genre Guide page, or click the genre name to show up as a sidebar very handy. The Genre Guide will tell you a brief description of a genre/subgenre, its history and characteristics, as well as most notable artists and albums.
The process of writing entries has only just begun, and the genres contained are a subject to change. But I m sure you will find these useful. If you re interested in helping to write these articles, please hit me up on the website or on Discord. Otherwise, enjoy what we already have 🙂
